Care Center of Loveland, oh sought to create three videos highlighting three different stories to showcase how the care center was the catalyst for change in the lives of the people who utilize their services. Through verite storytelling and targeted scripting, roadrunner productions was able to help care center achieve their goal of activating 200 monthly supporters to pledge $120,000 a year to serve the community.

Care Center approached Roadrunner with the goal of activating 200 monthly givers to expand their Wednesday night community event. Roadrunner Films felt that the best way to achieve this would be through emotional storytelling and targeted scriptwriting. After understanding the three stories from the subjects, Roadrunner wrote scripts to guide the interview. Because we had outlined and scripted out the story beforehand, we were able direct our questions not only to best tell their stories but also to tell the story in how the Loveland audience would consume it.

The audience that would be in attendance would already have understanding of the goals of the different programs the Care Center offered. However, because many of the donors do not volunteer at the events, they don’t know the individual impact that their money is having. In addition, these stories sought to engage the audience to come volunteer as well. Through our use of scripting and verite storytelling, we were able to achieve these goals.

Targeted Scripting

Director and cinematographer Stephen Mucci discussed the storyline of the three characters that Care Center wanted to highlight. Through discussion, we decided that the best way to approach our storytelling was through verite scenes.

Kathy’s story revolved around the growth of Care Center. By starting and ending the video with a verite scene at the humble, original location of Care Center, it underscores the growth that Care Center has transformed over the past 20 years.

Rosbeidy’s story intertwined with her mother-in-law. They have overcome tremendous circumstances to be where they are today. To best spotlight this growth, we decided to engage in a conversation between Rosebeidy and her mother-in-law to contrast the language differences as well as show this transformation Rosebeidy has experienced.

Finally Sarah’s story culminated with a surprise gift through one of Care Center’s programs. We wanted to visually show her current situation to reinforce how life changing receiving a car would be. By filming Sarah drive in her current car, we hear and see for ourselves. And when we shoot the surprise verite, the emotion from Sarah really moves the audience.

These storytelling choices helped expand and intensify the emotions of their stories.
